What are the advantages to hunting?

My friend hates that I hunt and I keep trying to tell her that it's a good thing for the ecosystem. What arguments should I use to let her know that it's not as bad as she thinks? What are the advantages to hunting?
Dont bother. Some people grew up being brain washed about hunting and are too ignorant to really think about how many ways hunting helps Its not even worth it to try to get her to like hunting. What are the advantages to hunting?
It's as bad as she thinks. You get away to far away places, magnificent mountains the camaraderie that is only available on a hunting trip. Then there's the thrill of a once in a life time trophy. Not mentioning some time a Little nightlife on the side. It's every bit as bad as she says and you should come clean and tell her. The reason you tell her you do it. That's up to you. Me! Glutton for punishment and shoot every day and hunt when I can.
Honestly, I cannot think of a single disadvantage.

Well, the person who said it only takes one male to reproduce. And they turn around and say that population control isn't a ';valid'; reason. It is. Since it only takes one male animal, then there's no reason to have older animals that are not healthy reproduce- that would be passing along weaker genes, and that will make that generation of animals weaker.

the kid said that deer hunters only hunt the males (bucks). Huh.. that shows just how ignorant they are on this subject. I know MANY people who will kill a doe over a buck any day. There's no benefit to just harvesting males and not the females. Each sex needs a specific number harvested to keep the population healthy. Back to the example I used about an older male animal breeding. Same thing goes with female animals. The older they get, the weaker their offspring will be. The less milk they'll produce (if talking about mammals). The older the animal (males and females), the weaker the state of their body/health.

Again about what 'the kid' said- about how it takes just one male to breed all the females. That would be a disaster. Inbreeding would result, thus making that generation weaker. Inbreeding DOES happen where animal populations have exploded. You need a good mix of male and females of different 'lines' so that you will get healthy offspring.

Not only for that aspect of population control- if there are too many animals in a given area (no matter if they are mostly males or mostly females), the animals will deplete the area of resources- food, water, cover. So, not only will the animals be at a higher risk for diseases/illnesses like rabies or CWD in deer, the land will be greatly affected by it too.

Another advantage- hunting provides healthier food for the hunter and his/her family. I have nothing against farmers, I support them 100%, but there's more protein in the meat of a wild animal than there is a cow, pig, etc. So, more protein means a healthier cut of meat.

Yet another advantage- it provides a source of revenue for the state. With the money that is used to purchase licenses/tags/other hunting supplies, that money is put into circulation and it stimulates the economy (which we all know anything will help being the economy is how it is now). Not only will it stimulate the economy, it also provides a source of money to keep wild life reserves (state and federal) and state/national parks open and running effecitently.

I'll probably add more as I think of it
ditto to the question above. Go look in the battlefield of Virgina, the deer there looked like dogs that had not eaten in a month. They say there are more whitetail now than there was before the Pilgrims came. Deer always have the advantage because their eyes pick up movement better than yours, their sense of smell is a hundred times better and their ears dint even compare to ours.
This is asked a lot on this site so you can look around and see how my answer compares to others.

BTW... Report Daniel for abuse... Ugly Trolls should not be permitted on this site.

Hunting decreases the population of an animal. Its regulated so the population stays a healthy size so disease does not waste the whole population. If the population of a herd of deer get too large they wipe out foilage, destroying native species just trying to survive themselves. Once that is wiped out and food sources are gone, the population will starve and immune systems weaken and disease takes over. Deer will then mix and try to search for food spreading the diseases they carry to livestock, pets, and even people. This is a very short answer that could require a total paper to write but from an ecological standpoint this is one argument. Another argument is...You are a natural predator and just doing what predators do. This is why your eyes sit in the front of your head, incissors for teeth and a monogastric digestive system. Here are some sources you may want to read for comebacks to your friend....

advantages of hunting are .

1getting meat

2just for fun and injoyment.

3to reduce the population of worst animals .
Free meat, a lot of fun, challenge, ability to enjoy the great outdoors!

Also helps keep animal populations in order so they don't over populate.
I would tell her it helps keep you away from her so that you don't have to listen to her uninformed and irritating opinions.
What Zachary R Said
';Man is the only one to whom the death of his fellow creatures is amusing in itself'; James Froude
It completely depends. It does help keep population down in absence of other predators, but that depends on where you live, etc. But if you're a deer hunter, what do you hunt? Males. This actually doesn't help the reduce population at all, as it only really takes one male to fertilize ALL the females.

I wouldn't really say it's good for the ecosystem overall anyway, but arguments can be made.
it is bad for the animals
