In the deep south, I have found that the day before a front moves in has the best deer movement. It seems they can sense a storm coming, and try to feed heavily before it hits. Equally as good if not better, is the first hour or two after a long heavy rain finally quits. As far as the rut, in my area it is spread out from Oct. to Jan. Farther north it is much more condensed, about two weeks, usually around the second week of Nov. Well, the length of the rut and the best weather are going to be related to the location of where you hunt at. I hunt in Georgia, and I personally like hunting in the mornings on still to light wind (%26lt;3 mph) that's about 45-60 degrees. Our rut lasts from early late October to December or thereabouts. I'd suggest talking to people who work at hunting stores; they are often hunters themselves and very knowledgeable.
There are several ';ruts';. They vary in amount of time and intensity. Most states will make the season around the ';rut for that state or a particular part of the state.





In Illinois, they typically run the first season from about Nov. 20 to Nov. 23 The second season is usually about Dec.1 to Dec 4th. Now this is for gun only. Bow starts in October and black powder only and handgun are later.Our seasons end in early January.





When they are in absolute full rut and it happens to be opening day in a good area, you will have plenty of action. I have found when they are that '; crazed'; it is very difficult to drop them with a well placed shot since they are so pumped up.
A nice snowy night, next morning is best to go hunting, tracking is great. Rut lasts I think for three weeks or so, until all the females have been bred by their bulls. I'm from Muskoka, Canada and it snows in the fall, or we get heavy frosts. I don't know about oklahoma, sorry.
we dont get to pick the weather ...we only get 2 weeks to hunt deer in rifle season so you get what you get...ideally i like an overnight snow with daytime highs the next day in the 40's...
